What is MDPE?
MDPE stands for Medium Density Polyethylene. It's the standard material for underground freshwater supply pipes in the UK. The blue colour identifies it as suitable for potable (drinking) water.
- Blue pipe = potable water supply (most common)
- Black pipe = non-potable/general purpose
- 25mm is the most common domestic service pipe size
- Burial depth: minimum 750mm (75cm) below ground
- Sizes available: 20mm to 63mm diameter
